Kenya Summer 2008 Ministry Trip

Dear Potential Kenya Team Members:

I called my travel agent yesterday concerning airplane tickets to Kenya for the planned dates of July 19-August 3 and learned that there are no seats available on any flights during that time period.  Apparently because of the violence in Kenya after the elections in December people postponed their planned trip to Kenya and now that peace has been restored planes are full.  The problem is also compounded because of the heavy air traffic going to Europe in the summer and all flights going to Kenya must first pass through Europe.

I say all of this in order to say, that I have to change the dates of the planned summer trip to Kenya to June 14-29.  I am sorry if this creates a problem for you but there is really no other choice.  Another problem that we are facing is that the cost of airfare to Kenya for this summer has gone up significantly from what it is for travel right now.  Roundtrip airfare will be around the $2,100 range.  Originally I had only budgeted $1,800 for airfare, so I have to increase the budget by $180 over the estimated cost that I wrote to you earlier.  The complete budget for the trip it listed below.  As you can see the cost for the trip is now planned at $3,680.  First Love needs to receive $1,500 of this money from you by April 15th and the balance will now have to be moved up to June 1st since we will be departing on June 15th. 

The Kenya Summer 2008 team will be focusing on 2 primary ministries. 

1. Continued construction projects on the First Love Children’s Home property in Nairobi.  Our number 1 focus will be finishing up the construction of the dining room/kitchen and office building on our 5 acre property. Both of these buildings will initially serve as the housing for both orphan children and the staff who will care for them while we wait for our first 3 story dormitory to be funded and completed. Willing volunteers are needed for masonry, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinet & furniture making, painting, tiling, and roofing work. We will also be doing landscaping and gardening projects as well as setting up a fish farming operation in 2 man-made ponds where we hope to raise our own tilapia. 

     

2. Kids Klubs at our schools located in both the Kibera and Mitumba slums. Child evangelism is at the heart of these VBS type outreach ministries.  The program includes Bible stories, songs, crafts, & games.  Our plan is to hold morning & afternoon Kids Klubs at Raila Educational Center for grades 5-6 and 7-8 the first week and Kids Klubs for all 150 children at Mitumba Primary School the second week.   

The cost for this 2 week ministry trip is approximately $3,680 per person.  This price includes airfare, lodging, food, cost of visa, and a donation towards the cost of materials used in construction & Kids Klubs.  There is also an optional 2 day safari which you could avail yourself of for an additional cost of $750 per person. You may raise funds for this trip and all donors will receive a tax deductible receipt for their gift from First Love. 

If you would like to join us on this ministry team we need to receive a non-refundable deposit of $250 from you by March 31, 2008.  Please mail your deposit along with your name to the address listed at the top of this notice. The first half of your total cost will be due by April 15th and the balance by June 15th.
